Cultural Connections: John Himmelfarb

Trucks are the subject of artist John Himmelfarb's recent obsession. We go under the viaduct and into the Chicago Cultural Center for a look at a convoy on canvas.

I was lucky enough to get to see a lot of John's work, including that full size truck they showed driving with all the stuff piled up on it. It's quite a sight to see in person!

Very interesting interview with John. I sent a picture of one of his trucks to my son who is a BMW technician. As a baby, the first 2 words he ever put together were "big truck." We have crayon drawings of his, like the one you showed of John's.

I understand completely what he's saying about the idea behind the image - I love the characters of the trucks, so much like different people I know!

The history of his formal interests as an artist (calligraphy, color, scale) are also part of the cargo.

LUV the display , maybe enough to get me back to Chicago to see it

Great interview and wonderful to see some of your work on site! Love seeing the truck sculpture moving about the landscape. Congratulations on this and on your show at the Cultural Center!
