Would someone PLEASE do the math and tell us all up front what to expect in miles per dollar? I understand that "greenness" and "home grown" energy have value; but, how much will they cost my family? Can the electricity producers be trusted any more than the oil producers to keep prices reasonable?

I also hear warnings about the need for very expensive electricity production and distribution changes in the US. Will the increased demand drive prices up? And how "green" is electricity production in the US today? How cost efficient is energy consumption in the US today?

And what about those materials that are not available within the United States? What are they exactly and where do we find them? What is our foreign policy in those areas of the world?

You wet our appetite with this article. I hope you continue the discussion with future articles that help us understand the impact on the 99%.

I'd have an electric car tomorrow. The problem is recharging the battery and distance available on a single charge.
The industry brought out some years ago the DC over AC system mainly aimed at the materials handling industry. This cuts down on wear & tear on the motors and extends battery life but also requires an exceedingly large traction battery pack in the region of 80 volts. Each cell of this pack is 2 volts and believe me they are not light you would therefore need a vehicle of massive proportions just to take the weight of the battery pack. Plus of course you would need facilities for changing the pack after about 100 miles - ok if just local use but for long distance??
