Pandora’s Box: Joseph Cornell Unlocks the Collection
Most famous for his unique shadow box artwork, the work of Joseph Cornell will be featured in the Museum of Contemporary Art in an exhibit concluding this weekend. The exhibit displays Cornell’s work in conjunction with other art objects from the museum’s collection, to illustrate the continued relevance of Cornell’s art and his influence on more recent work. The works span more than 60 years, and includes paintings, photography, sculpture and video. The display playfully juxtaposes new works with old, illuminating nuances in both. Learn more about the exhibition. The exhibition runs through October 16. Suggested admission is $12 to the museum; $7 for students and senior citizens.

Battle for Bats
Even if they’re not your favorite animal, bats are everywhere this time of year. But bats in the wild are valuable insect-predators and vital to their ecosystems. And also, in danger. The Field Museum will host a half-day symposium about bats and the disease known as White Nose Syndrome, which is devastating the bat population in record numbers.

Geomyces destructans, a previously unknown fungus, has killed over 1 million bats since 2006. The disease is found in at least 16 states and 4 provinces in Canada, and is spreading rapidly. Learn more about the symposium. The event is free with basic admission, which is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and students.

Food Trucks in Grant Park
If you’ve spent any time downtown recently, you might have noticed an extra presence on the streets of the Loop – no, not protesters – food trucks! With new trucks hitting the streets every week, the city’s food truck scene is hopping and Loopsters are, literally, eating it up. Mobile Cuisine magazine will be hosting food truck gatherings each weekend in Grant Park through October 29, in which several food trucks set up shop on the same corner to ply their wares.
