Garry McCarthy

As Chicago Police superintendent, Garry McCarthy is the public face of security during the NATO summit. McCarthy says the department has been planning since July, and has sent representatives to Pittsburgh and Seattle to learn from their responses to violent protests. McCarthy dealt with similar high-profile events as deputy police commissioner in New York City. He has also touted CPD’s handling of Occupy protesters, which was far less violent than police reaction in other cities, as proof Chicago is ready for the summit.
