The 43rd season of “Sesame Street” debuted Monday, featuring a new recurring segment: “Elmo: The Musical.” Replacing the popular “Elmo’s World,” the new pieces feature the popular red, furry monster in song-and-dance numbers that teach math skills (one episode has Elmo delivering a pizza with 10, count ‘em 10, slices).
The segments are part of the show’s efforts to attract a slightly older audience and focus on math and science.
In honor of the new season, we take a look back at Phil Ponce’s 2007 interview with Elmo and his puppeteer, Kevin Clash.
