2013’s 100 Most Powerful Chicagoans

Chicago Magazine’s Executive Editor, Cassie Walker Burke, is back on the show to tell us who made the publication’s 2013 list for the 100 most influential people in the city.

Chicago's two most prominent artistic directors -- and members of the "Power 100" -- spoke to Chicago Tonight about their reaction to being included in the list.

Robert Falls, Artistic Director of Goodman Theatre:

I’m flattered and honored to be recognized in this way by Chicago magazine, and included among these remarkable Chicagoans—so many of whom are active participants in and supporters of the Goodman Theatre. It’s the energy, drive and talents of these 100—and the hundreds of others who were not named—that make Chicago the first-rate, world-class city that it is.

Martha Lavey, artistic director at Steppenwolf Theatre Company:

The real meaning I get from this list is that it gives me the ability to keep Steppenwolf in front. I’m totally willing to stand behind this place, to stand behind Steppenwolf. This place really contributes to this city in a meaningful way. My being ranked on this list means well to the theater, but the point is, I don’t believe in it. Authentically, I feel that I don’t have power. It’s Steppenwolf that has created this reputation, and it’s in Steppenwolf that the true power and reputation resides.
