Gun Violence as a Public Health Crisis

Elizabeth Brackett takes a look at gun violence through the lens of the public health system rather than the criminal justice system on Chicago Tonight at 7:00 pm. The medical community is looking at gun violence like a disease that needs to be treated with the right medication. Interventions such as mentoring, counseling, and violence interrupters have proved successful, curtailing the amount of violence in the lives of those who have taken the right "medication." The public health approach focuses on the prevention of gun violence, not just the reaction to gun violence that characterizes the criminal justice approach.
