Remembering Earl Pionke

Earl Pionke died on Friday at age 80. His Chicago nightclub, “The Earl of Old Town” was a nationally known folk music stage in the 1960s and ‘70s that helped launched the likes of John Prine, Bonnie Koloc, Steve Goodman and many more.  In a 2006 interview from the documentary, American Roots Music: Chicago, Pionke talks about Steve Goodman’s “City of New Orleans,”  a song that became a huge hit after it was sung first on stage at The Earl of Old Town.
