This week on Chicago Tonight, we got a preview of a new exhibit at The Field Museum, Opening the Vaults: Wonders of the 1893 World’s Fair. The exhibit features the museum’s hidden collections of artifacts from Chicago’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. During a trip to the exhibit, visitors can check out items, such as large taxidermied animals and theatrical masks worn during performances, that helped attract more than 25 million people to the fair 120 years ago. Admission to the exhibit requires a Discovery Pass, which costs $23 for adults and $16 for children. The museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is on display until September 7, 2014. Those who are looking for a family-friendly Halloween celebration should head to the Chicago Botanic Garden for Hallowfest. Highlights include a Carved Pumpkin Gallery, face-painting, spooky snacks, live entertainment, a Howlin' Express train ride, and more. The event takes place on Saturday, October 25 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Sunday, October 26 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Regenstein Center and McGinley Pavilion. For more information, click here.

Bill T. Jones is a Tony Award winner, MacArthur genius, and maverick of modern dance. This week on Chicago Tonight, he joined us for a conversation about storytelling through movement and music. This weekend, fans of the innovative dancer can head to The Dance Center at Columbia College to see him perform Story/Time with The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. During the show, Jones will perform a series of autobiographical one-minute micro stories. Performances take place on Friday, October 25 at 8:00 pm and Saturday, October 26 at 3:00 pm & 8:00 pm. Tickets cost from $26-$30. For more information, click here.

Get outside and enjoy the autumn weather this weekend by participating in the 14th annual Pumpkins in the Park 5K in Lincoln Park. In addition to the race, the event also includes a pumpkin pie eating contest, pumpkin decorating, and a Dance Contest set to Michael Jackson’s hit song Thriller. The 5K kicks off at 4:00 pm at the South Field House in Lincoln Park. Prior to the 5K, a “Spooky Sprint” for kids will take place at 2:00 pm. This week on Chicago Tonight, we got a preview of Inventory_The EAM Collection, a new exhibit at the Elmhurst Art Museum. The exhibit “fills the galleries from floor to ceiling” with artwork and objects from the museum's vault. The wide collection of items on display includes prints, drawings, paintings, and interesting objects, such as a 19th century iron spear from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The exhibit is open through January 5, 2014. Admission to the museum costs $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. For more information, click here.
