Fans of both food and art will enjoy a new exhibit that opened at The Art Institute of Chicago this week. Art and Appetite: Painting, Culture, and Cuisine explores the history and evolution of the American spirit through food. Showcasing more than 100 paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts from the 18th through the 20th century, the exhibit is open through January 27, 2014. Grab a jacket and head to Millennium Park this weekend for some free ice skating, followed by a cup of hot chocolate. The McCormick Tribune Ice Rink, located on Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison Streets, opened to the public this week. A popular winter attraction, the rink has drawn more than 100,000 skaters over the last 12 years. This weekend, the rink is open on Friday from 12:00 to 10:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Skate rentals cost $10, and lockers are available for $1. This weekend, the Wicker Park/Bucktown Chamber of Commerce presents the first annual ChillFest, which celebrates the musical and creative heritage of both communities. The event includes more than 100 acoustic performances that will take place at 32 different venues throughout both Wicker Park and Bucktown. Get in the holiday spirit this weekend by catching a showing of A Christmas Carol at the Goodman Theatre. The play opens on Saturday, and features Tom Creamer’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless tale.
