NATO 3 Acquitted of Terrorism

The "NATO 3" have been acquitted of all terrorism-related charges. Instead, they were found guilty of much lesser mob action and arson charges. They will likely face less time in prison than if they had been convicted of terrorism. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 28.

Defense attorneys say it's a a significant defeat for the Cook County State's Attorney's office who had brought state terrorism charges for the first time in Illinois history.

Brian Church, Jared Chase, and Brent Betterly have already served close to two years in Cook County jail after failing to post bond. The three defendants entered the courtroom today clean-cut and well-dressed, a departure from the scruffy look of their mugshots back in 2012.

The courtroom was packed with dozens of supporters of the NATO 3, including Bill Ayers.
