This week on Chicago Tonight, we got tips on spring gardening from Chicago Botanic Garden’s Eliza Fournier. If you’re lacking a garden, explore the beautiful indoor plant family at Botanic Garden during their Northern Illinois Gesneriad Society Show & Sale this weekend. View stunning works of nature like the lipstick plant, primrose and beautiful exotic flowers like the African Violets. The show also features rare plants, a sale and lessons on plant diversity, foliage and plant culture. The event runs from Saturday, March 29 to Sunday, March 30. Admission is free.

World's Fair Memorabilia Show

Relive Chicago history this weekend at the 20th annual World’s Fair Memorabilia Show. Collectors and dealers look to sell, buy and trade items related to World's Fairs from 1876 to the present. This year’s focus will be on the 1933 and 1934 Chicago World's Fair. There will also be screenings of home movies and news reels from the 1933 and 1934 World Fair titled “Chicago A Century of Progress.” The event takes place at the Holiday Inn Hotel Chicago-Elk Grove on Sunday, March 30 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tickets cost $6.

City Of Chicago's Official Earth Hour Celebration

Kids can look forward to an educational adventure at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Earth Hour Celebration. Following the announcement that Chicago was named "2014 U.S. Capitol of Earth Hour," the center looks to celebrate this achievement by offering fun activities for participants of all ages. The celebration will feature raffle giveaways, glow-in-the-dark face painting, music, and a unique chance for guests to meet and have their picture taken with Earth Hour Ambassador Spider-Man. At 8:30, the celebration will culminate in a special “lights out” event. The event takes place Saturday, March 29 from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. General admission is free.

Les Misérables

In celebration of their 30th Anniversary, Drury Lane Theatre, will present the legendary musical Les Misérables. This musical, based on the Victor Hugo novel, is a popular story of romance, suspense and redemption. Jean Valjean, an escaped convict, is on the run in 19th century France. Trapped in unfortunate circumstances, he must find his way on his road to redemption all while caring for a young orphan named Cosette. The iconic musical features acclaimed performances from Rachel Rockwell, Quentin Earl Darrington and more. The show opens Saturday, March 29 and runs through June 8. Tickets cost between $45 and $60.

John Singer Sargent Collection

This week on Chicago Tonight, we profiled the varied work of American artist John Singer Sargent . Known as the great American portrait artist, Sargent was a prodigy whose many talents extended beyond his reputation. Visit the many works of his permanent collection this weekend and explore many other cultural pieces at Chicago’s famous Art Institute of Chicago. Take a trip through time as you rediscover his most iconic paintings from 1856 to 1925. While his stunning portraits are featured prominently throughout the collection, art lovers of still life will enjoy his classic nature paintings such as his 1885 piece titled, Thistles. General admission for the museum costs between $17 and $23.
