"The Trials of Muhammad Ali"

From heavyweight champ to conscientious objector, Muhammad Ali is one of the most recognizable figures in the world. Born Cassius Clay, he won an Olympic gold medal, and quickly and dramatically became heavyweight champion. But Ali's toughest fight came outside the ring, joining the Nation of Islam and refusing to serve in Vietnam. He was convicted of a felony and stripped of his boxing title. His case was ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. A new documentary from Chicago's Kartemquin Films called The Trials of Muhammad Ali highlights Ali's controversial years in exile. It airs on WTTW11 Monday at 9:00 pm. Director Bill Siegel joins us.
