This week on Chicago Tonight, we talked with Mary Zimmerman on her interpretation of the Chinese fable The White Snake. You can watch the Goodman Theatre’s interpretation of this classic Chinese production this weekend. The story chronicles the tale of a gentle serpent spirit who’s transformed into a beautiful woman. Watch this moving play as the protagonist fights for love and family. The play is open this weekend and closes June 8. The production runs for 1 hour and 38 minutes with no intermission. Tickets cost between $25 and $75.

SELF Magazine’s Workout in the Park

Join other Chicagoans this weekend in a fun and exciting way to get fit at Self Magazine’s “Workout in the Park.” Bob Harper of NBC's "The Biggest Loser" hosts this annual fitness festival, which features exercise classes, beauty consultations, healthy treats and giveaways. Event goers can also meet other health enthusiasts and get tips on how to get in shape. The event takes place Saturday, May 17 at 11 AM. Tickets cost between $30 and $35.

A Golden Night

Spend your weekend helping out dogs. The Enjoy passed hors d'oeuvres while bidding on silent auction items, including sports and event tickets, autographed and inscribed books by favorite American authors, artwork, spa services and more. Proceeds will benefit As Good as Gold, a golden retriever animal rescue group. The event takes place Saturday, May 17 at 5:30 PM. Tickets cost $135.

Chicago Favorites Food Tour

Sample your way through Chicago's most popular food scene this weekend at Bobby Bike Hike’s Favorite Food Tour.  Enjoy Chicago pizza, hot dogs, craft beers, and more.  This walking tour shows you some of the most beautiful rooms in downtown Chicago from the Walnut Room at Macy's to the lobby of the Palmer House.  If there is cold weather, this walking tour route makes use of the unique indoor pedway system that connects much of downtown, keeping you warm and cozy. Highlights include: Millennium Park, Historic Palmer Hotel, Iconic Marshall Field’s Building, and Chicago River. The event starts at 11:30 AM. Riverfront Mayfest

If you’re looking for an escape from the rainy weather, join many Chicagoans at this year’s Riverfront Mayfest. This event looks to be the official kickoff to the summer festival season. Located along the Chicago River in the Chicago Tribune festival lot at Grand Ave., event goers can expect to listen to music provided by Joe's Bar and enjoy a variety of food from some of Chicago's best restaurants. Tickets cost between $8 and $20. The event runs from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18.
