Malaysia Airlines Plane Crashes in Ukraine

A Malaysia Airlines plane crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border. The plane was carrying 295 people heading from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. Reuters is reporting that 23 were U.S. citizens. The plane hit an area fraught with conflict between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces. There are some reports that the plane was shot down, but the opposing parties are denying responsibility.

Here to share his perspective on the crash is Robert Pape, professor of political science at the University of Chicago, where he is director of the Chicago Project on Security and Terrorism.
