New Study Questions Success of Niacin


Niacin has been prescribed for decades by doctors looking to increase a patient's HDL - or good cholesterol. But one of the largest research trials concluded this year, showing that the benefits of niacin treatment may be outweighed by the side effects associated with taking the drug. Dr. Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of Preventative Medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine published an editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine stating that the study's findings support scaling back prescriptions of the drug. He joins us on Chicago Tonight.
