Les Turner ALS Walk for Life

In the past 12 years, this two-mile long walk has helped to raise $9 million for ALS. Event organizers describe it as "a celebration of hope, courage and camaraderie," and "an ideal way to support those affected by Lou Gehrig’s disease.” The event begins at 10:00 am on Sunday and includes entertainment, live music, food, and activities for children. There is no cost to participate.

Lakeview Taco Fest

Come for the tacos, stay for the Mexican wrestlers and beer as the Taco Fest stops by Lakeview for the second year in a row. Chicago’s best taco vendors will be spotlighted this weekend, including Café El Tapatio, Newport Bar & Grill, and D.S. Tequila Company. The event runs from noon to 10:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. There is a $5 suggested donation.

 

Design Harvest

This annual celebration of design returns to Chicago for a third year. This weekend, West Town plays host to how-to workshops, expert panels, and local home goods sales. Festivities begin at 11:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday, and the event runs until 8:00 pm on Saturday and 6:00 pm on Sunday. Vendors include Urban Craft Custom Upholstery, EuroFurniture, Nicolet Candle Company, and more. Suggestion donation is $5.

Concert for Peace

Now in its 16th year, the Concert for Peace continues its mission to help audience members send wishes, thoughts, and prayers for peace to Chicago’s neighborhoods. Beginning at 3:45 pm on Sunday, the event coincides with the International Day of Peace. The music begins at 4:00 pm, as the Fulcrum Point New Music Project performs works by Somei Satoh, Jacob TV, Louis Andriessen, Thelonius Monk, Horace Silver, and Fela Kuti. This event is free.

Indian Cultural Festival
Central Park

Naperville, IL 60540

Journey to Naperville this Saturday and find yourself in India. The 2014 Indian Cultural Festival features shopping, folk dancing, and activities for children. The one-day event aims to demystify Indian traditions and culture, and share the values of “love and harmony that bind a family and community at large.” The festival runs from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday. This event is free and open to the public.
