A Closer Look at CPS Options Schools

Educators in CPS say the term “alternative school” comes with a negative connotation. The students in need of CPS Options Schools--sometimes non-traditional school settings for at-risk students--are good students, for whom life choices or system failures have put them at risk of dropping out. But, over the summer the district expanded the number of Options seats available to the 56,000 dropouts, to bring more of them back to the classroom.

In part one of the series, Brandis Friedman details how the Student Outreach and Re-engagement program works and what students are saying about it. Watch Chicago Tonight: CPS Helps Dropouts Finish High School.
