Tribune Buys Sun-Times Suburban Newspapers

Sources say a landmark deal is in the works for Tribune Publishing, parent company of the Chicago Tribune and nine other newspapers nationwide, to buy suburban newspapers from the Sun-Times parent company Wrapports LLC. After the sale, Wrapports LLC will only continue to publish the Sun-Times' daily tabloid and the free weekly Reader. Tribune Publishing would acquire the Aurora Beacon-News, the Elgin Courier-News, the Lake County News-Sun, the Naperville Sun, the Northwest Indiana Post-Tribune, the SouthtownStar and the 32 weekly newspapers published by the Pioneer Press. Ann Dwyer, deputy managing editor of Crain's Chicago Business, joins us to weigh in on the landmark deal.
