In November, at the request of the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization, the Chicago Park District board moved to rename “Park No. 553” to La Villita Park.

When completed, the Park District said the location will include two artificial turf fields with lighting, three natural grass fields, basketball courts, community gardens, a large playground, and a picnic pavilion.

The first part of Maggie Daley Park, named for the former first lady of Chicago, is set to open Saturday with the debut of its ice skating ribbon. The past two years of construction have accounted for $60 million in spending. View time-lapse photos from Maggie Daley Park construction.
