The Week in Review’s Year in Review: 12/19

Joel Weisman and his all-star panel tackle the top stories of 2014. In politics, Bruce Rauner beat Gov. Pat Quinn. Judy Baar Topinka easily wins re-election and then dies unexpectedly. Then, a battle follows about who will and how to replace her. With diving poll numbers, Mayor Rahm Emanuel had a tough challenger in Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis who pulled out of the mayoral race after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Chicago welcomed a new archbishop as the retiring Cardinal George released the case files of decades of priest abuse. The polar vortex brought Chicago to a halt; and a disgruntled contractor set fire to the air traffic control center in Aurora, grounding the nation's busiest airline system. And in sports, the Chicago Cubs and White Sox signed major players making them contenders in 2015. Wrigley Field's controversial renovations began. The Bears imploded under the poor performance of overpaid Quarterback Jay Cutler. And the Blackhawks failed to repeat as Stanley Cup champs but start the new season red hot.
