Second Eastland Disaster Archived Film Located by NIU Graduate

This week, there was another new discovery of footage from Chicago's Eastland Disaster. Nearly 850 people died on the Chicago River in 1915 when the S.S. Eastland capsized at the dock. A recent graduate with a Masters in History from Northern Illinois University -- searching a British film archive -- discovered the footage. It shows the recovery of some of the bodies from the passenger ship, which suddenly rolled over while docked along the river. Watch the new footage here.
