When Heeyoung Kim moved here from Korea, she expected to find vast Midwestern prairies. When she learned that prairie and woodland ecosystems were endangered, she launched a personal crusade to paint and preserve 200 rare native plants. We revisit Jay Shefsky's profile of the artist.

Kim's work is featured in an exhibition at the Joel Oppenheimer Gallery that opened this week and runs through May 9. Kim is the first living artist the gallery has ever represented.
