Getting the Garden Ready

Gardening season is just around the corner. To help us prepare for the upcoming season, The Organic Gardener Jeanne Nolan stops by our garden and studio.

Last summer, we began our garden with the help of Nolan and her staff. We relied on their expertise to get started from selecting where to place our garden to building garden beds to choosing which crops to plant and everything in between.

This year, we’re asking viewers to help us select some of the crops we’ll grow in our garden based on Nolan’s recommendations. In addition, she’s decided to plant the following crops in our garden.

Celery
This vigorous growing celery is more flavorful and tender than what you buy at the store.

Swiss Chard
Swiss Chard features multi-colored stems with various shades of green or bronze leaves.

Broccoli
This crop is an early producer of heads that develop side shoots, which are fun to watch and grow.

Hakurei Turnip
These turnips mature early with a sweet and fruity flavor, and a crisp and tender texture.

Spinach
Smooth-leaf spinach is a spring or fall crop.

Help us choose which crops to plant this season. Vote in our interactive polls through April 20.
