Hop on over to the Shedd Aquarium for a toadally ribbitting experience. The new special exhibit, Amphibians, features 40 species of frogs, salamanders, and rarely seen caecilians. Learn about amphibians’ life cycles and how they’re able to adapt to nearly every environment on Earth. Cost of admission varies with ticket options. Mayfest

Kick off Chicago’s street festival season at the 20th annual celebration of Mayfest. This Lakeview tradition, dubbed a “reintroduction to all the warm-weather madness,” features food, music and fun events throughout the weekend, including a Chicago Kids Day on Saturday. Events are held rain or shine Friday through Sunday. Admission is $10. 

Andersonville Wine Walk

This Sunday, grab a glass and take a walk through Andersonville at the ninth annual Andersonville Wine Walk. Each Wine Walk ticket comes with a specially printed glass that gets you tastings along one of two routes—north and south. Each route features 11 distinct locations pouring three wines apiece. Check-in for the event beings at 1:00 pm at the Swedish American Museum, and the event beings at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $40.

Boats

It’s boating season in Chicago. Bring your little sailors and captains to the Children’s Museum for an immersive nautical experience, with a dock and bait shop, an assortment of boats and boating equipment, and boating accessories like fishing poles and a captain’s jacket. Cost of admission to the museum is $14 for adults and children (those under 1-year-old are free).

The Field Museum

Chinese artist Qiao Xiaoguang created 15 panels of paper cuts (each 51 x 24”) that depict iconic Chicago landmarks paired with familiar scenes in Beijing. The originals are displayed at The Field Museum in an exhibit called City Windows, while reproductions can be found at the United Airlines concourse at O’Hare Airport. The exhibit is open through May 27. Cost of museum admission ranges from $15 to $31. Watch Chicago Tonight’s story on the work of Qiao Xiaoguang, the artist behind the papercuts on display.
