Shutdown Showdown

The state has been operating without a budget for six days. On Tuesday Comptroller Leslie Geissler Munger is going to court to request a court order to allow her to pay all state employees on their scheduled pay dates. But Attorney General Lisa Madigan believes it’s unconstitutional for state employees to be paid without a budget. Last week, an emergency one-month budget received no Republicans votes. It passed in the Senate but came up short in the House. How long will the game of political chicken over the budget continue? Joining us to discuss the impasse and what’s next on the agenda this week are Rep. Will Davis (D-30th District), Rep. David McSweeney (R-52nd District), Sen. Karen McConnaughay (R-33rd District), and Sen. Daniel Biss (D-9th District). Find your legislators, and contact your Illinois Senator and Illinois House Representative.
