IDOL STRUCTURES AT THE DEPAUL ART MUSEUM
DePaul Art Museum, 935 W. Fullerton Ave.
Opens Thusday. Hours: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays; noon-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

This new work from Chicago artist Matt Siber explores the functionality of billboards, signs and other forms of public mass media. The exhibition includes photographs which focus on the structures of billboards and signs without showing off the advertisements. There’s also a series of three-dimensional sculptures which echo said public advertising. Siber, who teaches advanced digital imaging at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, has said his artwork draws on the Minimalism art movement, which gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s with its focus on simple sculptures made from industrial materials and wood.
