FRIDAY

Documentary Screening: 'Share My Kingdom'
Project Onward Studio, 1200 35th St., 4th Floor
 
Bridgeport gallery Onward Studio screens this documentary about three adult artists living with developmental disabilities. Prior to the 3 p.m. screening, master artists from Project Onward will also be available for a crafts session which includes tips on sculpting, sewing and collage. All materials included. 1-4 p.m. Sunday. $5 suggested donation.

U.S. premiere of 'Sylvia' at the Joffrey Ballet (Oct. 14-25)
Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy.
The Joffrey celebrates 60 years with this North American premiere from Milwaukee-born choreographer John Neumeier. "Sylvia" is described as a ballet of “deception, unrequited love, suspense, obsession and abduction.” All the great intense ballet things. 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday. $32 -$155.

Chicago International Film Fest Kicks Off (Oct. 15-29)
AMC River East 21, 322 E. Illinois St.

It's the 51st year for the longest international competitive film festival in North America. Highlights include Taiwanese master Hou Hsiao-Hsien's "The Assassin"; Chicago-based filmmaker Stephen Cone's "Henry Gamble's Birthday Party"; and Kent Jones' documentary, "Hitchcock/Truffaunt," on the 1962 Francois Truffant interview sessions with Alfred Hitchcock. Oct. 15-29. $14; passes available for $130-$250. 

Grace of Intention: Photography, Architecture and the Monument (Oct. 15-Dec.23) 
Museum of Contemporary Photography, 600 S. Michigan Ave.
A photography exhibit explores the symbolism of monuments due to social and political shifts. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Free.


SATURDAY

AYA, Aerial Dance
The Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave.
Elements Contemporary Ballet and and Aerial Dance Chicago collaborated once before in 2014 – the result was "Surge," which the Chicago Tribune called “seamlessly thrilling.” They’re giving it another go with AYA, an evening-length aerial ballet. 8 p.m. Saturday. $18-$44.

Prolific composer and bandleader William Parker turns out a sound which flows between jazz rhythms, reggae and calypso. 8:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday. $20-$25.

Chili Fest Chicago (Oct. 17-18)
Parking lot at 219 W. Ohio St. 

Nosh Chicago's annual tribute to all things chili. Featuring the dish of the day from Lindy's, Reggie's Chiag, Dia De Los Tamales, Municipal Bar and Dining Co., Kuma's Too and more. There'll also be Sunday football, a live DJ and tailgate games. Turn up the heat. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. $10-$40.
