Lawmakers Return to Springfield, Budget Crisis Looms


The Illinois General Assembly returned to work in Springfield on Tuesday for the first time in three weeks. Amanda Vinicky joins us with the latest.

House Democrats fell one vote shy on bills they say would protect child care and services for the elderly and disabled. And during sometimes-heated debate, Republicans accused Democrats of ignoring deals negotiated with the governor in good faith.

The two parties did join together in the House to pass a bill that would free up money for local governments and lottery winners, but the Senate still needs to reconvene and pass the measure as well.
