Vince Kolber: Candidate for Congress, 5th District

WTTW’s 2016 Voters’ Guide to the General Election is an online resource designed to inform voters about the candidates running for office in the Nov. 8 election.

Candidates were given two minutes to tell voters where they stand on the issues, why they feel they are best qualified and what they intend to do if elected or re-elected. The messages were recorded at the WTTW studios at no cost to the candidates. The Voters’ Guide is an online version of Candidate Free Time, pioneered by WTTW in the 1992 race for U.S. Senate. This year’s Candidate Free Time is underwritten in part by the League of Women Voters of Cook County and the City Club of Chicago.

Candidate Q&A

What is your vision for this office?

To help restore Congress’ critical role as the power of the purse which is provided in our Constitution. This to better represent the interests of my fellow citizens in the 5th District.

What is the most pressing issue facing constituents, and how can you help address it?

Illinois and our country have serious issues and no one is acting to implement solutions. We need to Act. Crime in Chicago is an embarrassment and terrorism is unchecked worldwide. The majority of Americans are financially stressed. Our Government in Washington is receiving a raise of 9% every year and still spending more than it is taking in. A third of Americans rely on Government assistance today versus only a few percent when the war on poverty was initiated. Professional politicians rule our country and have limitless terms. I am here to call out the damage they are doing to our country. It is immoral my generation leave its enormous public debt exceeding $80 trillion to the next.

My bold solutions will focus on keeping Chicago and America safe, tax reform and regulatory relief to get our economy booming. I am committed to protecting our culture and the rule of law. We must have school choice and term limits. I am for legal immigration, while securing our borders. I will reform Obamacare, Social Security and Medicare to block immoral rise of debt that future generations will incur.

Candidate Statement

I’m Vince Kolber your independent outsider fifth district candidate for Congress. I’m a father, an entrepreneur, educational philanthropist, and a proven leader who offers bold solutions for a brighter future. I have economics degrees from Wharton and the University of Chicago. I demonstrated courage and tenacity in building a successful business and creating jobs for the distressed railroads and airlines I served. Through School Board service my commitment to improving educational opportunity for all is proven.

Identifying problems and implementing solutions before they become calamities is what I do. Crime in Chicago is an embarrassment and terrorism is unchecked worldwide. Too Many Americans are financially stressed. Our Government in Washington is receiving a raise of 9% every year and still spending $500 billion more than it is taking in. We need to act.

Congress is made up of too many lawyers taking advantage of limitless terms and way too few job creating business leaders. Since 2009, my opponent Mr. Quigley has voted for every deficit spending bill that has taken our Treasury borrowing from $10 to nearly $20 Trillion. Add that to our $60 Trillion of underfunded Social Insurance programs and we the people owe more than $80 Trillion. It is immoral my generation leave this unconscionable public debt to our children. Our top military leader believes this debt is the number one vulnerability facing America. It has to stop.

My bold solutions will keep Chicago and America safe. We must have tax and regulatory reform to get our economy booming and we must bring down the debt. Let us commit to the rule of law, protecting our culture, school choice and term limits. Let us have legal immigration and secure borders. Let us reform Obamacare, Social Security, and Medicare. We need a federal referee for Illinois—not a bailout. Let us back legislation to allow States such as Illinois to have access to Federal Bankruptcy courts. Then Illinois will be able to revive itself just like United Airlines and so many other successful turnarounds. Vote for me, Vince Kolber, and bring bold solutions to create a brighter future for all.
