Democratic candidate for governor Chris Kennedy slams Mayor Rahm Emanuel for overseeing a “strategic gentrification plan” designed to “push people of color out of the city.” Gov. Bruce Rauner’s Republican primary opponent, state Rep. Jeanne Ives, calls his stay in a disease-plagued veterans’ home a “publicity stunt.”

Former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says there’s a better than 50-50 chance he’ll run for mayor next year, but how much of a threat is he? Chicago’s police oversight agency recommends firing the officer who in December 2015 shot and killed a man having a mental health crisis and his neighbor.
