You ask if we "believe" in the efficacy of oxygen . Medical treatment should be based on the gold standard of scientific inquiry, in this case, double blind clinical studies. Belief is but magical thinking. Yet another expensive & dubious therapy that we all pay for to keep careers and institutions going.

Sharon, I definitely agree with you that best practice medicine is evidence based, and I share your concern. At the same time, studies of this nature have been done (many from Europe). In an over-arching sense, the conclusions are conflicting-- they either state that HBO improves healing time or that it has no affect on healing time. This is a tough area in which to do perfectly executed research, as, clinically, difficult wounds may have extremely complex and intertwined systemic causes. If highly skilled physicians are saying that they witness positive effects, I feel like it would be unwise to immediately dismiss the therapy as simply "expensive" and "dubious." (By the way, I am not in healthcare, so I could be wrong...)

The EO2 device is not a Hyperbaric device that is done in stages of treatment. The EO2 device is a continous delivery of low flow oxygen delivered at 1 atmosphere, which is less than hyperbaric (>1 atmosphere) obviously. The continuity of this device allows it to be more efficacious than the treatments due to not having to interupt the therapy.

I have seen a new device that delivers a continuous diffusion of oxygen directly to the wound 24-7 that allows patients to go about there normal daily activities without the inconvenience of having to go to a wound clinic for 3-4 hrs that has shown very positive results and is more cost effective. It is safe with literally no side effects. Check this device out for yourself at http://www.eo2concepts.info/ This is a new modality that was FDA cleared in the fall of 2009.

Thank you for linking to the HyperbaricLink treatment center directory at the end of this story. Our website [www.hyperbariclink.com] also provides important clinical information about hyperbaric oxygen for chronic wounds, diabetic ulcers, radiation injury, and associated infections. In the peer-reviewed medical literature readers will find an abundance of evidence to support these common uses of hyperbaric oxygen.

Chad Ochocinco uses this treatment method. As we can see, his performace as an athelete has dropped off the charts since he started. I guess it makes him look pretty, but that is all garbage since his performance has dropped.

Go to Kentucky and ask the race horse people what they think of HBOT It works and it works well. There are major studies that show how well it works. There are many off label HBOT chambers because people are learning that it works!!!
