Yes. Why spend $4 million dollars of taxpayer money taking down a building in a cesspool like Harvey when nature has been slowly doing it for 32 years? This makes no sense whatsoever. For Mayor Kellogg to blame the failure of DSM on Universal Pictures and The Blues Brothers truly shows that this man is a huge joke and needs to be locked up for crony corruption himself.

I agree, why do you think the mall failed in the first place? Why are there huge swaths of neighborhoods on the south and west sides that have NO major retailers and are called so called "food deserts" because no major grocery chains will locate there? Because they are cesspools riddled with crime, and a citizenry that tolerates the crime and mostly live off of government aid and therefore there is no economic incentive for businesses to locate there. DSM would have just about demolished itself within the next 10 - 15 years anyway, as the above post stated, nature was returning it back into gravel! Who is anybody kidding, there will be no redevelopment at the site of DSM. It will most likely be a weed filled open lot for the next 5+ years. If there were to be redevelopment, why was DSM not redeveloped 20 - 30 years ago, when it could have still been salvageable as a shopping center before it was too badly decayed? Why are there too many to count of abandoned stores, fast food restaurants and factories all through Harvey? And besides, for urban explorers, DSM was fascinating. I had several times made the trip down there just to walk through, snap some pictures and view the decay. What a horrible area though. A complete waste of money, there will be no redevelopment, and if there is, until the area gentrifies, (possibly decades away if it does?) that too will fail.
