I can't wait until it's over to start this. He repeated his commitment to jobs by saying "If you're able-bodied, if you're breathing, we want you working." The first part was a slap in the face of all the Federal and State laws barring discrimination against disabled people, as long as "reasonable accommodation" can be made for them. The current emphasis on public works and heavy manufacturing tends to disfavor many women and college grads, as well as legally disabled people. I should add that even his inclusion of "breathing" could be taken as discriminatory against people whose paralysis means they require machines to help them breathe - but who nevertheless have the potential to work for money. Illinois needs work performed by people's brains as well as brawn, or hasn't Quinn heard of the 4H Club?

My thoughts on what Governor Quinn had to say tonight? The same thoughts I have every time Governor Quinn appears on Chicago Tonight. He has nothing of substance to say. He speaks to his audience as though it is made up of four year olds. I would beg you not to subject your loyal viewers/members to the ridiculous utterings of this man ever again however, I understand that, as the producers of a news program, you are pretty much obligated to give the Governor of the state of Illinois airtime. Arrrrgh!

Just a lot of hot air. Didn't answer anything, just talked jobs, jobs, jobs. Never said where the money was coming from for all the improvements. Embarrassed to know he is our Govenor.

I agree with the comment that having Quinn on was of little value. It was obvious that he wasn't going to give any serious answer to the questions. Very vague and evasive. Not a good use of the show's time.

The future of Illinois and it's citizens should be the Governor's sole focus, but most of his responses reveal a high level of self-absorption, defensiveness, and evasiveness where he needs to be straightforward. He claims to have good relationships with all other political leaders within the state, when it's clear to everyone that he needs to be much more effective in consensus-building and lead us to more meaningful change and a balanced budget. Finally, he seems insensitive to the needs of others when he states that he wants every able-bodied person in Illinois in a job. But how can that happen when a large number of able-bodied residents, young and old alike as well as returning veterans, can't work for myriad reasons, including the fact that the growth in teen and adult populations will always outpace job creation. He talks likes he's capable of creating a perfect world, which is both naive and arrogant. After listening to him in this interview, I believe that his education, rhetorical and critical thinking skills are just too limited to warrant reelection.

Governor Quinn is way too conventional, wishy-washy, cowardly, & too much a thing in the pocket of The Chicago's, & Illinois' Super-elite Top 1 % Land-Owning Class. There's no way as a follower of Henry George I can communicate with him or any politico at the local, state, or even national, or even International levels. Therefore, I, David M. MANN, would like you, & yur viewers to actually consider ME as a viable, & creditable Candidate for The Independent Mayor of Chicago, Governor of Illinois, & President of The United States Of North America, in 2012, all the exact same time. May i begin by saying the governor was bombarded nay lambasted with questions but he held his ground. On many issues i agreed with him like you cannot cut spending so much that you stifle growth in a a recession and the fact that we need to invest in our infrastructure. I am frustrated about not having a job for almost 6 months now but as a diabetic at least the state and county care for my disease and make my medicine affordable. it would be too easy to say cut programs but which ones. The programs that help the most destitute. He is right about investing in education but the price of education is enormous. Good job mr quinn on holding your ground and really practicing what he preaches with his faity. TO HELP the poor and provide people with jobs. Oh and please don't allow anymore gambling expansion. we need jobs in technology or medicine and no more casinos that prey on the dreams of the poor. say no on casino expansion.

The two main issues facing Illinois are the large deficit and pensions. All the other initiatives discussed by Governor Quinn, although worthwhile, do not fix the growing deficit. Eddie Arruza did an outstanding job in focusing the conversation on these issues while our governor seemed to only be interested in sticking to his "talking points."

During the recent one-on-one interview with Governor Quinn, how come no follow up question regarding tax breaks to Chrysler was asked? The governor mentioned the number of new jobs created at the Belvedere plant several times. Considering the recent history of the state giving tax breaks to the Mercantile Exchange, Catepillar, etc. I would have thought information regarding Chrysler would have been a natural.

I agree with Quinn's point that you cannot just cut spending to improve things. Sometimes you have to invest in things in order to make progress in fixing problems like the economy and a deficit. Having said that however, I have to agree with others who say that Quinn was way to vague and evasive about details of exactly what he is proposing and spent far to much time praising things already done rather than seriously outlining what needs to be done and how.
Dear Governor Quinn,
Belive me I know how to spell jobs. Please just say the word instead of constantly spellling it out as J-O-B-S. Spelling it out in conversation makes you sound like a kindergarten teacher instead of a serious leader of a state.
