Need a refresher course on your history of the world? Long Story Short might not give you the most accurate information, but Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central veteran Colin Quinn’s new one-man show is sure to be one of the more memorable catalogue of events you encounter.

After a twice-extended run on New York’s Broadway, the show is coming to Chicago for three weeks at the Broadway Playhouse, August 24th through September 10th. Quinn isn’t the only big name associated with the show; Jerry Seinfeld serves as the show’s director and all-around co-collaborator.

Watch Seinfeld and Quinn discuss the show in the video below.

In a mere 75 minutes, Quinn takes the audience through the ages, from ancient to modern day, and often ignoring the confines of chronology; as Julius Caesar becomes an Italian mobster, Ancient Greece, Costco, and Antigone, Snooki. With his “articulate brand of comedy,” Quinn even details the fall of our own nation as well as discussing the attitudes, appetites and bad habits that provoked the downfall of one of history’s most powerful empires.

Since concluding its Broadway run, the Drama Desk nominated Long Story Short has aired as an HBO Special and toured in East Hampton, Philadelphia and Montreal, before landing in Chicago. The New York Times and Variety have dubbed it “Hilarious,” while Time Magazine declared, “Colin Quinn nails it. State of the art.”

As for the long and the short on Quinn, he began working as a comedian in New York. He first appeared on television as the co-host of MTV’s game show Remote Control, and later became a regular on SNL for five seasons. In 1994, he had his first one-man show, Sanctifying Grace, which became An Irish Wake. He appeared in the film Grown Ups (2010) last summer.
