Wishful Drinking
A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (the 1970s), Carrie Fisher played Princess Leia in the movie Star Wars. Now, she’s in Chicago for the run of her Broadway autobiographical solo show, Wishful Drinking. At times both funny and moving, Fisher’s intimate performance regales audiences with her life story – from her birth to celebrity parents to her personal battles with addiction, depression and not wearing underwear in space. Chicago Park District pumpkin patch
Been holding out for the perfect pumpkin? Lucky for you, the Chicago Park District is hosting pumpkin patches in different city parks throughout the month. Bring the kids to pick their very own from a field laid out with all shapes and sizes. Once you’ve picked the perfect pumpkin, other autumn activities abound – pumpkin decorating, pony rides, photo stations and treats. Events are for all ages. There is a nominal fee per activity.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Although it’s too late to run in the marathon yourself, come watch from the sidelines along the race route as it traverses the city. The course offers a scenic tour of Chicago’s neighborhoods and the forecast is supposed to be beautiful. Participants range from the amateur to the elite, and hail from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Both the start and finish line are in Grant Park. Circus in the Parks
Ever wanted a circus in your backyard? How about in your neighborhood park? Then you’re in luck! Midnight Circus performs throughout the month in Chicago parks, with all proceeds going to local park improvements. Shows will go on regardless of weather, as the circus returns with an all new show and a new purple & blue tent. Children under 3 are admitted for free. All other tickets are $15.

Mutt Strut
Perhaps you’d rather cheer on dogs than people? If so, then Chicago Canine Rescue’s 8th annual Mutt Strut is for you. The event includes a 1.5 mile walk through the Wrigleyville neighborhood, raising money for the Chicago Canine Rescue. Registration closes October 7 at 5:00 pm, but you can still participate in the family and dog-friendly block party!

Love, Loss, and What I Wore
How does clothing evoke memory? Love, Loss, and What I Wore is a collection of vignettes by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, based on the best-selling book. The show explores the link between memory, clothing and accessories to tell stories both humorous and touching. The show features a rotating cast, comprised of Nora Dunn, Felicia Fields, Roni Geva, Katie O’Brien and Barbara Robertson. Learn more about the show. Oktoberfest at Navy Pier
The producers of Chicago’s annual Christkindlmarket bring a new event to the city: Germany's Best & Oktoberfest! Guests can sit down at 7-foot long wooden tables in the tented beer garden and be served by waiters in waitresses in traditional German garb. And there are plenty of classic German foods to chow down on - Bratwurst, Schnitzel, potato pancakes, pretzels, and more. Visitors may come to Navy Pier for the beer, but stay for the German crafts and vendors, showcasing the heritage of both modern and traditional Germany. Admission is free.
