Follies
Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s silver anniversary season kicks off with a dazzling musical, Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning play, Follies. Set in the 1970s, the show follows a group of actors and showgirls who reunite at the theater where they used to work, just before its demolition. As they reminisce about the past, shadows of their former selves join them on stage to reenact their memories and regrets, and help them cope with the present. Learn more about the show. After Dark at The Art Institute of Chicago
Ever wanted to explore a museum at night? After Dark gives you just that chance, with free reign of The Art Institute’s Modern Wing, decked out with a cash bar and free appetizers. Enjoy special tours of this month’s featured gallery, Windows on the War: Soviet TASS Posters at Home and Abroad, 1941–1945, as DJs spin danceable tunes. The Chicago Way Literary Series
The Chicago Way is a traveling literary series that features Chicago authors on Chicago topics. Every month features a different format tailored to the featured author. This month, best-selling author Jamie Freveletti releases her newest thriller, The Ninth Day, with an interactive party featuring readings by the author and an audience-based interview. Alliance of Artists Communities: 20th Anniversary Conference

Boo at the Zoo
Looking for somewhere not-so-scary to take the little ones? The Brookfield Zoo has a slew of activities on weekends until Halloween. Afternoons feature a costume parade, a “haunted” carousel, hayrides, a corn maze, and of course – plenty of spooky animals! Hang around with Rodrigues fruit bats, discover creepy crawlies such as black widow spiders and scorpions, meet a great horned owl and learn about Mexican gray wolves. Admission to the zoo ranges from $9.50 for children and seniors to $13.50 for adults.
