Randy Hultgren Q & A

1) What is the No. 1 issue in your district and how would you address it?

My top priority in Washington has been to get our economy moving again in order to spur private sector job creation, creating jobs for my constituents and across the country.

2) How would you promote job growth in your district?

I know that the government cannot create jobs, but we can create an environment to enable private sector job creation. To that end, I have supported legislation to cut spending, reduce the size of federal government, keep taxes low, and reduce the regulatory burdens confronting our small business owners and job-creators.

3) Should the federal government cut spending and where?

Congress must cut spending to help reduce the size of the federal government and get it off the backs of hard-working American families and small businesses. Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem, and as we’ve learned from Illinois, we cannot tax our way to prosperity.

4) If Republican, which GOP presidential candidate do you support?

I have not endorsed a candidate.

5) Give an example of something you’ve done that is bipartisanship in nature.

Since being sworn into Congress, I have introduced three bipartisan bills. Some of my other bills have also garnered bipartisan support.

6) Name one good policy idea that comes from the opposing party.

I applaud Congressman Dan Lipinski for his work on important pro-life legislation, such as the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act.

7) How do you define family values?

Family values means, among other things, standing up for the rights of the unborn and for traditional marriage.

8) What are your thoughts on the healthcare law?

I believe it does not address the primary issue in our health care system - cost - while putting government between doctors and patients. I have voted for its repeal and continue to support its repeal.

9) Who is your political role model?

Henry Hyde is one my political role models.

10) What’s on your iPod?

Classic rock
