Timothy Wolfe Q & A

1) What is the No. 1 issue in your district and how would you address it?

Job creation.  As a Congressman I would be directly involved in a process that will include getting rid of burdensome regulations, simplifying the tax code and reducing governmental spending and reducing the impact government has on our lives.

2) How would you promote job growth in your district?

At the state level I would want to work with Representatives and Senators to promote a similar pro-business environment in Springfield.

3) Should the federal government cut spending and where?

Spending should be cut at every level of government.  We need to set priorities as to what should be spent.  If there are programs that are not benefiting the economy or the highest level social goals, then such programs should be eliminated.  Also, the Federal government needs to take a hard look at is obligations and determine if expenditures are really the responsibility of the private sector and/or the state government and should be shifted from the Federal government.

4) If Republican, which GOP presidential candidate do you support?

I will support any of the present candidates as all of the remaining candidates would be a better President that our current one.

5) Give an example of something you’ve done that is bipartisanship in nature.

I’ve participated in professional organizations that also require give and take. Bipartisanship works when the people involved have common goals.  We should have common goals in Congress.

6) Name one good policy idea that comes from the opposing party.

President Obama recently suggested eliminating or consolidating different types of programs to save tax dollars. Assuming he is serious, such cuts certainly have my support.

7) How do you define family values?

I would define family values as ascribing to the notion that the traditional family is the backbone to the success of a nation and a prerequisite to the success of a community.

8) What are your thoughts on the healthcare law?

If you are referring to the law known as Obamacare, I think it is bad law. First of all, I believe that it is unconstitutional.  If the Federal government can require us to purchase health insurance, why can’t it require us to purchase other products and services? Second, the Federal government is already way too involved in our lives. For example, this health care law (as well as other laws) has taken some of the parent’s rights away as parents in being responsible for their children’s health issues. (For example, as a parent I cannot get access to my child’s health records without their permission) Finally, there is this procedure by which Obamacare was forced through Congress. Any bill that cannot stand scrutiny before being voted upon doesn’t deserve to be voted upon at all, let alone passed.

9) Who is your political role model?

I would say the politician that I would consider the most positive figure during my lifetime is Ronald Reagan.  The reason is because he was so positive, and not overtly critical of his political adversaries, while still able to advance significant policies for this country..

10) What’s on your iPod?

I don’t use an iPod.
