NATO Host Committee Raises $36.5 Million

The Chicago NATO host committee has raised over $36 million from private donations, which combined with $19 million in federal grants will be enough to fully fund the May summits, the group announced Thursday.

Reports have estimated the summits to cost between $40 million and $65 million, though they were made before President Obama relocated the G8 summit from Chicago to Camp David.

The private donations and federal grants for security expenses "enables us to keep our commitment to the taxpayers of the City who will not carry the financial burden of hosting the NATO summit," Host Committee Executive Director Lori Healy said in a press release. The host committee is a division of World Business Chicago.

The committee also listed its donors on its website, including Boeing, the CME Group, and GE. How much each company donated will be released a month after the May 20 summit.
