A new Chicago Public Schools CEO was named Friday after news broke that the current chief, Jean-Claude Brizard, resigned after just 17 months on the job. Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced Brizard's replacement, Barbara Byrd-Bennett, at a press conference Friday morning.

Brizard, who was noticeably absent during the contentious teachers' strike, was hand-picked by Mayor Rahm Emanuel from Rochester, New York to run CPS. His resignation was described as a "mutual agreement" with City Hall.
