Illinois Lieutenant Governor

Today marks the first day candidates can seek voter signatures to get on the ballot for the 2014 primary. But candidates for governor have one step they must complete before hitting the pavement -- they need to select a running mate. Two Republican candidates took to social media and announced their selections over the Labor Day holiday. Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford chose Steve Kim, a former GOP candidate for Illinois Attorney General as his lieutenant governor. State Sen. Kirk Dillard picked State Rep. Jil Tracy to be his running mate. The rest of the candidates have yet to announce their picks. Chicago Sun-Times Springfield Bureau Chief Dave McKinney helps us put these selections in context, and offers up what else is happening in the state capital.
