Venture down to Grant Park this weekend for the 34th annual Taste of Chicago. The world’s largest food festival will feature hundreds of the city’s restaurants, food trucks, pop-up restaurants, and music. The free event will feature performances by Nickel Creek, Jeff Tweedy and Aloe Blacc. The Taste of Chicago is open 11:00 am-9:00 pm on Friday and 10:00 am-9:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Miles for Melanoma

Join the Melanoma Research Foundation for its 8th annual 5K run/walk to benefit cancer research.  Race day registration costs $40 for adults and $25 for children. Participants can register individually or as a team. Each participant will receive a T-shirt. Registration begins at 7:30 am on Saturday, July 12, and the race begins at 8:30 am at Montrose Harbor.

Irish Fest

Celebrate all things Irish this weekend at the Irish American Heritage Center’s Irish Fest. More than 100 performers will be featured over the three-day event on five stages including Phil Coulter, Derek Warfield, Gaelic Storm and the Tossers, and The Dooley Brothers. Dine on Irish cuisine and participate in the mashed potato eating contest or the freckle contest. The festival begins at 12:00 pm on Friday and continues through Sunday. Tickets cost $15 for Friday and Saturday, and $20 for Sunday.

Summer on Southport

This two-day fest will feature an eclectic mix of fine art by day and rockin’ music at night. Various art forms including oil, acrylic, watercolor, jewelry, sculpture, photography, wood, fiber, glass, paper, metal, and mixed media will be on display. The festival begins Saturday and runs through Sunday. Hours are 10:00 am-10:00 pm Saturday, and 10:00 am-9:00 pm Sunday. A $5 donation is suggested, and proceeds benefit the Southport Neighbors Association.

Elmhurst Garden Walk and Faire

Wander through the gardens of six homeowners in the Elmhurst Garden Walk and Faire. Tour the newly renovated Conservatory and newly built greenhouses in Wilder Park, where a deli lunch will be served in Wilder Mansion. A Faire Boutique will also be set up in Widler Park from 10:00 am- 4:00 pm. The majority of the proceeds will benefit the Mildred Hartney College Scholarship Fund. Tickets cost $20.
