PACs Spar in Mayoral Race

Big money, bare-knuckle, Washington-style politics come to Chicago. Two new Political Action Committees, or PACs, are going head-to-head over Mayor Rahm Emanuel's re-election, as well as the election of aldermanic candidates who support or oppose him.

Today, an independent organization that opposes Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced its formation. United Working Families describes itself as "a new organization to fight for working families against the top-down, corporatist leadership influencing public policy and elections throughout the city," in a press release.

The PAC acts as a counterweight to another PAC that has already raised millions to support the mayor’s re-election. Chicago Forward describes itself as “an issue advocacy organization that will be engaged in the 2015 municipal elections supporting candidates who demonstrated a shared commitment to these priorities.
