On the campus of the University of Chicago, the Smart Museum of Art presents “Carved, Cast, Crumpled," an all-sculpture exhibition that has taken over the entire museum space. With a mix of ancient and modern objects, the museum seeks to ask "What is Sculpture?" Works include Matisse, Rodin, and American artists including Isamu Noguchi, H.C. Westermann and a host of Chicago Imagists. All works are from the collection, some rarely displayed, and they echo the inaugural sculpture-based exhibition at the museum 40 years ago.

The exhibit, “Carved, Cast, Crumpled: Sculpture All Ways,” is the first in a series of special projects celebrating the Smart Museum of Art’s 40th anniversary, and will be on display until Dec. 21. The museum is located at 5550 S. Greenwood Ave.
