NASA Astronaut Col. Mike Hopkins

NASA astronaut Col. Mike Hopkins belongs to the very exclusive group of just 215 people who have visited the International Space Station (ISS). But Col. Hopkins distinguished himself during his time on the ISS in a couple of memorable ways. Hopkins, a lifelong athlete, continued his strenuous earth workouts in space with experiments designed to combat the muscle atrophy and loss of bone density that all long-duration astronauts experience.

In between workouts, Hopkins also did a lot of work during his 166 days in space, but the moment that captured the most attention among earthlings was the “selfie” he snapped on Christmas Eve 2013, during one of his two spacewalks.
