Chicago Dramatists has announced Meghan Beals as its new artistic director.
Beals had already been serving as interim artistic director for the company since February, when the group’s longtime artistic director Russ Tutterow left the position and later died from cancer.
After initially joining Chicago Dramatists as an associate artist in 2008, Beals went on to serve as an associate artistic director from 2011-2013. She also previously worked as a literary manager and resident dramaturg at Northlight Theatre and project associate for First Look Repertory at Steppenwolf.
Founded in 1979, Chicago Dramatists has maintained a focus on cultivating new work from developing playwrights. Notable alumni include Lydia R. Diamond, Rebecca Gilman, and Keith Huff.
