Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang Build on Tradition at U of C Campus

Architect Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang have designed a new gateway to the University of Chicago–a commons and residence hall on the north end of campus.

Gang's goal for the project at 55th Street and University Avenue was to cultivate community, including maintaining the University House System. The House System is a tradition that has faculty members and grad students living as resident staff among the undergraduates. Three-story living spaces will exist within the larger residence hall.

A collaboration with Mortenson Construction, the contemporary residences join other distinctive buildings added to the campus in recent years, including Helmut Jahn's Mansueto Library and Tod Williams and Billie Tsien's Logan Center for the Arts.
