Adler Planetarium Opens Vault, Reveals Astronomical Treasures


Chicago was once home to the most powerful telescope in the world, and one of the oldest telescopes can be found here. Both instruments are currently housed at the Adler Planetarium, but one is rarely brought out of storage.

The Adler invited us to view some of their rare artifacts in their vault. Here’s what we found.

Some of the Adler’s rarely seen pocket globes will be on display Saturday, April 21 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., as part of the planetarium’s Earthfest program.
