Chicago hockey fans are mourning the loss of a legend: Stan Mikita.
The Blackhawks announced Mikita's death Tuesday, saying the 78-year-old was with family at the time. His health had deteriorated after being diagnosed with Lewy body dementia.
Mikita played 22 seasons with the team, and is the franchise leader in assists, points and games played. He tallied 541 goals, trailing only his teammate and friend Bobby Hull.
Mikita became the first player to have his jersey retired by the Blackhawks in 1980 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame three years later.
